The cavern shall be used for the purpose of storage of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) to be imported at Visakhapatnam port by various users. Bulk LPG will be imported from various sources in refrigerated LPG ships, stored in the cavern under pressurised condition and then supplied to the downstream evacuation facilities for evacuation or loaded into pressurised small tankers. The storage services are being extended to the Indian Oil majors who import LPG and distribute for domestic consumption in Indian kitchens. During the past 13 months of existence, over 575,000 MT LPG has been transited through the Cavern.
